In 2006, my husband and I moved to Boston, Massachusetts. We didn’t actually stay there for very long. For a variety of reasons we decided to move back to Coeur d’Alene at the end of November of that year. Boston was a fun place to live, however briefly we were there.
My inlaws came to visit that October. While they were visiting we all took a trip to Camden, Maine for the weekend. It was the last weekend of the season, so many of the shops were already closed. We had the run of the resort where we stayed. We each had our own little cabin. Because it was so late in the season we were able to overlook the beach.
We woke up to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. The beach there was covered in huge rocks. We clambered around on them and looked into the tide pools. We found little shellfish and starfish lurking in the shallow pools.
We spent the day shopping at the available tourist shops. We were inspired to do some early Christmas shopping there. I found an abacus in an antique shop there and bought it for my mom, who is a math teacher.
Camden is a cute little town. Many shops were closed already for the season, and the ones that were open were closing after that weekend. It’s been several years, so some of the details of what we did are a bit fuzzy. Maine’s a beautiful place, and I’d like to go back there again someday. Perhaps when it’s a little warmer, though. I do remember that it was very cold.
